Nice to Meet You Isabelle Young, Dare to D.R.E.A.M. Interview Series + "Sirens" Music Video Release

Photo by Dariane Sanchez  • • • Graphic Design by Catherine Vallieres
My dream is to have a cottage somewhere by the ocean, where I can write music and take surf breaks.
- Isabelle Young, Montreal

Montreal-based songstress Isabelle Young has recently released her official "Sirens" video. It was only as the Mermaid jumped into the lake for the video finale that I realized I had been holding my breath. Directed by William Mazzoleni, "Sirens" is nothing but a masterpiece. Dipping my senses into a mystical lakefront area, surrounded by the Mermaid's melodious and angelic voice is quite the magical moment.  Underneath her calm and comforting demeanor, Isabelle Young is a game-changing restless spirit whose Art is ripe for discovery.

Thank you for this voyage into the furthest reaches of your beautiful and interesting mind. It's nice to meet you Mermaid sister!

The Interview

Who are some of your poetic influences?
I have always really loved Anne Hébert.  She is a Canadian author and poet whose words really resonate in me.  There is a deep solitude in her poems, and her writing is sharp, not at all ornamented or flamboyant.  My favourite collection is "Le Tombeau Des Rois" (not surprising that it is a big influence of mine, with all that water imagery).  I also love Jack Gilbert and Robert Frost.

-What are the first 15 words that come to mind when you think about "Love"? Exposed - Skin - Deep - Mystery - Soul - Chemical - Faithful - Naked - Grow - Music - Inspiration - Longing - Natural - Healing - Addiction

How would you describe your fashion style?
Onstage, a mix of 70s glam and what I consider the good parts of 90s fashion...   Very feminine, high waisted everything, winged liner, lots of black, lots of rings, big hair. Jerry Hall, Sade and Brigitte Bardot are big inspirations of mine when it comes to style.

Tell us two things that make you smile.
My dog Leo and synchronicity.

Without much hesitation, what are you three dream destinations?
Greece, New Zealand and the Moon.

What are you thankful for?
There are so many things to be thankful for. I am thankful for having such a loving and supportive family, for my health, for creativity and inspiration...

One pleasant thing we would be surprised to know about you?
When I was a young teen, I went to a science camp in La Malbaie every summer.  I've always been interested in nature and its workings.  This camp taught me mainly about marine biology, geology and astronomy, but is also where I had my first real kiss.

Talk to us about "Sirens", your beautiful and refreshing EP project.
Thank you!  Sirens came from a cold winter.  I was a little adrift and needed a way to express myself... The songs on the EP are actually some of the first songs I have ever written.  Alone in my apartment, I wrote about the downfall of past relationships and the nostalgia that comes with it.  When I listen to it now, I realize that it is quite sullen...  I think it is okay to embrace melancholia, as long as you channel it the right way, and that's what I did.  I am a very sensitive and emotional person, and that winter I had finally found a way to channel it and lift a little of that weight off my shoulders.  Working on the Sirens EP, I met some really inspiring and talented people.  I had lots of fun in studio with my musicians and with producer Connor Seidel.  I also filmed my first music video for the EP's title track with William Mazzoleni this summer, which was one of the most inspiring experiences of my career so far.  We brought the team to a cottage on Bark Lake, one of my favourite places on Earth.   I basically got to swim all day and sail with a drone flying around the boat!

For you, Art is...
Art is curiosity.  It is what happens when you use pieces of all your influences to create something of your own.  It is also a little magic and mysterious...  There are moments when you don't understand exactly where it came from.  That is art in its' purest form.

According to you, what is the purpose of life?
To stay curious, always.

Press Release | "DiverCity", Niti Marcelle Mueth's First Solo Exhibition

"D i v e r C i t y"
A Niti Marcelle Mueth Exhibition

At Studio Caravane
December 19, 2015

As part  of the exhibition « DiverCity » we invite the public to come and discover cultural and artistic diversity through Niti Marcelle Mueth’s lens. This one-night only intimate exhibition also honours the artist’s birthday celebration.

Diversity represents everything I am and what I’m fighting for, whether it’s the cultural diversity in the city, my own cultural diversity, the artistic diversity found in Montreal, or my own artistic diversity. My dream is to challenge myself as an artist, but as an individual above all, to feel that I have accomplished something for diversity, somehow implementing a positive change of mentality, but all these accomplishments start with my own person. Expanding my horizons and way of thinking are things I learn on the daily, and you know what, I feel like everyday I get to accomplish my dream.
- Niti Marcelle Mueth

Always experimenting with different plans of action, Niti Marcelle Mueth is one of the chosen few who really got that Midas Touch. The Montreal-based sistar-visionary who was our featured artist last month is presenting her much awaited first solo exhibition. Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served.

On December 19, for one night only, the works of Niti Marcelle Mueth will lead to a refreshing dialogue on the theme of diversity. An evening of conversations and exchange. A voyage of re-discovery, re-finding ourselves and reconnect to what unites all; the essence of our very own diversity.

Editor's Note | November Celebration, Balance and Harmony

Anaëlle Naná Moon Oyå

Mischievously staring into the unknown, totally fuelled by coffee,  looking beyond what is right in front of me — an environment subtly reflecting on the horizon within. The Frosty Moon celebration is finally here and I cannot wait to unfold deeper this month with you.

November is a difficult month to deal with as we are faced with constant duality and transformation.
For Aile Rėve's Frosty Moon celebration, the focus will thus be on balance and harmony remaining centred and balanced will be the goal as we let go of the old that no longer serves us and make room for the brand new.  Our aim is also to strengthen family and friendly ties by sharing uplifting, inspirational and healing vibrations. It's a highly charged month darling but we are here to help you F.L.Y. higher. First Love Yourself and Dare to D . R . E .  A . M .

Embracing greater responsibility and commitment  is always fun and exciting but as the new year is fast approaching, we're in a phase where we need to resolve unfinished business and successfully complete the projects we have started. Right?  I think it's just that time of the year for all of us. Needless to worry; everything will be just fine. Connecting to our inner child always makes challenges easier and fun.

Wishing you a happy and warm Frosty Moon Celebration darling!
Let me know what you think!

Happy 3 Year Anniversary to Bornina Puss | Mini Interviews Series Special

Courtesy of Maëlle Glès, Bornina Puss
For me, Bornina Puss is two lovely dolls who proved to me that wishes can come true if you work hard enough. They are two dedicated bawsettes who don't let anything stop them. Year after year, I see BP grow stronger and improve their image, style, and work. They are both sweet and fierce; they are simply themselves, and they encourage women to do the same. As I have worked a couple times with them, I can assure everybody that they are true to what they show on social media. They are beyoutiful inside and out.

Dear Bornina Puss...
I wish that your passion keeps guiding you through this wonderful journey. I hope to see BP grow bigger and bigger because it's awesome. I wish you to keep your unique flavour (but I'm not worried about that). Above all, I wish you girls to always keep the beautiful smile you have when you are working.  Cheers to your three years girls. I'm proud to be a part of the BP team. Luv u mucho <33
Maëlle Glès @may_in_hell

For me, Bornina Puss is real. It's a brand speaking from the heart and inspiring women to be true, daring, proud, and especially themselves. Bornina Puss is that little voice to remind you when you wake up all tired, when you study/work like a sweating beast, when you're eating the full pizza, that you're beautiful inside and out.

I have seen these women work their BP asses off, and my wish for them as they celebrate their 3rd anniversary, is prosperity and success. Bornina Puss is a beautiful brand and I wish for them to keep on growing and blooming into the movement of joy and inspiration they are meant to be. Many lives have yet to be changed and marked my BP's. - Myriam Kamel @myriiaammk

For me, Bornina Puss is a strong feminine brand, supporting individuality, dreamers, lovers, and being bad ass - backed up by two ambitious, beautiful, and talented women.

For Bornina Puss's 3 year anniversary, I'd like to wish them growing success and tell them to keep kicking ass.  - Lindsay Crockford @lindsaycrockford

For me, Bornina Puss is more than a jewelry company. It's basically a woman empowering movement that is so real and unique. Bornina Puss is love, girl power, unicorns and PIZZA!!

Dear Bornina Puss...
I just want to say that I'm amazed and proud of what you've build. I've seen the growth and it's so beautiful to see a company like yours expand while still keeping the same essence they had at the beginning. I'm always proud to wear your jewelry (especially overseas) and tell people about it. Keep growing and keep spreading that positive energy that you have in you. Stay blessed! - Jayne Mandat @sunkissedbrown

Bornina Puss is an inspiration for me. They remind me to never give and and never stop chasing your dream. I remember that from the start, their Facebook page had around 100 "likes", and today through all their hard work, it's almost incomparable. The founders of BP are 2 creative, open-minded and beautiful women. I admire them from the bottom of my heart. ♥

Dear Bornina Puss...
I just want to let you know that I'm so proud of you girls. You bring so much inspiration and motivation and to me. Keep up the good work. All your efforts are being paid off. I wish your company gets bigger and bigger. Happy 3 years anniversary. ♥ I will always be there to support you. ♥ - Shurlii Lam @

Bornina Puss for me is 3 things: The embodiment of female empowerment, inspiration and creativity.
Female empowerment because what they do is all about celebrating your inner goddess, being proud of who you are and let your inner light shine. It lets no one but you define what beauty is and their work lets your own (beauty) speak for itself. It is a mix of two souls that came together to share with us the passion they have to create designs that fit’s your personality. Every item is unique and has it’s own little voice that speak to us (the clients) in a different way that’s why I love the brand. One can choose to define/interpret each item and wear it as they please and making heads turn in the streets asking “Gurllll where did you get those”. Form earnings to rings to t-shirts I just love everything they do.

Dear Bornina Puss...
To you both goddesses I want to say thank you. For the beauty you put in your work, the inspiration your brand brought to my life and the dedication you have into offering something we cannot find everywhere. Thank you for making me feel unique, but knowing there are souls out there that can relate to one another. To your work and for your 3rd anniversary I say cheers and may your cosmic power take you where the wildest dreams are made.  - Iris Linares @notyourexotic

DEAR PUSSIES, YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO CELEBRATE...

Five Reasons to Go the Goji Way

Veganista healthy club, fortune smoothies, magical elixirs and kitchen witchery; living healthy in Montreal has never been so fun and delicious. We stumbled upon this brand new place downtown called Goji Health Bar by Amenzone, and here are 5 reasons why you absolutely must discover this gem.

Marikym Hervieux by Dominique Lafond

1. "The most beautiful you will ever be is alive."
We had never heard that quote before until we asked Marikym one of her fave quotes she lives by. The most beautiful you will ever be is alive. Wow! Let that sink in...

Goji's Fortune Smoothies

2. Goji's Fortune Smoothies are loyal.
Hot or cold, every Goji smoothies are wrapped up with a neat and healthy quote. Not only it puts a smile on your face, but you also want to hold on to the written note because just like a point card, when you accumulate them, you get free Goji stuff. Did you just have an "awww" moment? We sure did! You see, these other smoothies out there aren't loyal.

Chaga Mushrooms

3. They've got magic mushrooms of immortality and they're legit!
No darling, relax,  we're not talking about drugs here! See, when you step up in the Goji place, you see all kind of wonderful stuff, like the Chaga mushroom  also known as "The Gift from God", "Mushroom of Immortality", "The Diamond of the Forest", or even "King of Plants". Let us twerk some knowledge here. Chaga is unique. Nothing like common mushrooms. Chaga contains wild-source minerals, and is particularly high in copper, calcium, potassium, manganese, zinc, and iron. This is why one of Goji's specialties is the Chaga-Miam, made with local chaga mushrooms. Cheers to a long and youthful life!

4. Catching feeling for Goji is a "yes".
Goji is an intimate and warm-hearted health destination that offers much more than homemade fresh juices, smoothies and healthy snacks. The knowledge they have to share with you is chlorophyll lime and basile water for your mind. They always have some of that tasty water to truly quench your thirst. A visit at Goji bar will undoubtedly keep you zen, balanced, and rejuvenated. All of their products are organic, vegan and gluten-free. The love is real. The love is mutual. First love yourself.

5. Private consultations with Marikym are like a soul to soul journey. .
"As a health coach, my goal is to guide you towards optimal wellness. Since we are all different, my method is based on bio-individuality. I also advocate for a way for eating that is closer to our ancestors. I add a special touch of modernity and freshness and voilà! My ultimate goal: remove the word "diet" of the popular culture. It is possible for people to change their lifestyle without depriving themselves and feeling guilty. As our health is based on personal development and not only on nutrition, I also address the areas of love, performance at work, physical exercise, and spirituality. With me, you will begin a path to well-being that will bring you happiness and overall beauty. Go ahead, celebrate what life has given you."  - Marikym Hervieux, Health Coach & Executive Chef | Mtl, Canada

"I’m a scientist teacher in high school (I'm actually classless right now because to find a job as a scientist teacher is a pain in the ass, clearly should have been a French teacher or in kindergarten…). I dance when I have time, I’m the coolest aunty ever, I’m part of the NGO Afrikawaly (google us) and I’m one of the coordinator of Articien (google it too). I have a brand of t-shirt called “SHDC” which stands for “Short Hair Don’t Care”. I made them because I wanted women with short hair to feel pretty, feminine and good in their own skin! No offense to long hair women , I know y'all don’t care either and this is exactly the point: Hair is just hair and every women are beautiful either they have long hair or short hair... Besides seeing Kendrick Lamar on stage — I was so close so many times (laughs), my dream is to open an orphanage."

T H E    I N T E R V I E W

If there was a movie produced about your life, who would play you, and why? Traci Ellis Ross would play me… I think she’s as crazy as she’s smart (laughs). I love her acting, the faces that she can make… I do faces all the time too, so she’ll do great!!! And I love her ass so yeah, I give her the role!

How would you describe your fashion style? Euh… I’m not really the big fashion person I dress how I feel, most of the time I’m sexy (ahahah) but never trashy… If there is something noticeable about my style is that I wear a lot of crop tops!

What are you thankful for? I’m thankful for my family and my friends, they are my foundation, they keep my grounded and they always have my back!

Two things you could never leave home without. Earrings… I feel naked without them…And Vaseline to put on my lips (omg that sounds crazy (laughs) but I have a small jar of Vaseline in almost all my bags so that even if I change my bag, TAH DAH Vaseline is around… my lips dry fast…).

Tell us two things that make you smile. A child smiling… I die for children… I can’t deal, they make my heart melts and when my boo says he loves me (yes I’m a romantic :D)
